Meta has acquired Moltbook. I am starting to doubt myself.
Meta’s acquisition of Moltbook, the AI-agent social network, feels like a PR stunt, given its fake traffic and security flaws. Is this just attention seeking, or am I missing something?
Media outlets worldwide are reporting on the recent acquisition of Moltbook, the Social Network for AI-Agents, by Meta. Honestly, such news is not even surprising anymore, but I still can’t see any strategic value in a vibe-coded app with artificial, manipulated traffic that is bleeding of vulnerabilities. The only reason I can think of is a play for attention: just to get people talking.
My doubts
This feels like a rigged game, another story to keep the uninformed public entertained. But maybe I am just missing the vision. Maybe there is potential beyond just maximizing attention. Seeing mainstream media excitedly cover this event makes me wonder if I am just too skeptical about everything new. What do you think? How do you feel?
